While West Lafayette city employees, including Mayor John Dennis, will be receiving a small raise in 2017, the city of Lafayette has added new positions instead of raising the salaries of those already on the payroll. Lafayette will replace a secretarial position with a human resources and single jobs will be created in the engineering and public works departments. Two maintenance positions will also be added to the parks and recreation department. Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski told the city council Tuesday that no additional funding would be needed to create the positions. He says the engineering and parks positions will manage the city’s projects, while the HR position will assume more responsibility than the previous assistant position. “We’re still operating with just three people and to be able to do that, we needed to change some designations, some tasks, duties and responsibilities,” Roswarski says. “And, change a job description in the human resources department.” West
